Not your momma's LASAGNA

Imagine... lasagna, hot and delicious, waiting for you when you walk through the door after a long day at work. A traditional recipe with noodles, ricotta-parmesan-mozzarella, and SAUSAGE!

WARNING: you may never ask for mom's lasagna again.

15 lasagna noodles (uncooked)
1 lb. italian sausage (casings removed) - the King would go with sweet, but you could substitute hot if you choose
2 pinches of dry basil
1 jar of your favorite tomato sauce (or use your own) - the King recommends Rao's Homemade Marinara Sauce.
1 medium onion (finely chopped)
2 cups shredded mozzarella
15 oz. ricotta cheese (part skim)
1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • brown sausage in skillet
  • add onion and basil
  • when the onions are translucent and sausage cooked through, drain grease and add sauce
  • mix well
  • in a bowl, mix parmesan cheese, ricotta cheese, and 1 cup of mozzarella
  • in slow cooker, spoon 1/4 of sausage mixture into slow cooker
  • place 5 lasagna noodle in cooker, break noodles to fit
  • spread 1/2 of cheese mix, 1/4 of sausage mix, 5 more noodles, 1/2 cheese mix, 1/4 sausage mix, last 5 noodles, 1/4 sausage mix
  • cover and cook on low for 5 hours
  • spread remaining 1 cup of shredded mozzarella on top
  • cover and let stand for 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted
ENJOY!
