RECIPE: Chocolate Fondue (Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco)

Located on west edge of Fisherman's Wharf and the eastern side of the Presidio (home of the Golden Gate Bridge), Ghirardelli Square is the original home of the world famous Ghirardelli Chocolate Company. It is hard to walk anywhere in this neighborhood and NOT be drawn in by the aroma of fresh chocolate. Truth be told, I am NOT a huge chocolate fan. Ghirardelli chocolates is proof that their are exceptions to every rule.

While this is no longer the Ghirardelli Factory, the history remains. This should be a quick stop on your San Francisco tour. You need only 15 minutes to stop in, buy a few pounds of chocolate and grab a treat for the road. Ghirardelli Square is located just one block from the Cable Cars station.

Now... on to the Recipe.

While in the large cafe, I witnessed guests enjoying sundaes made with Ghirardelli hot fudge, dipped strawberries, and other freshly made chocolate treats. The most delicious looking of them all was a chocolate fondue with a variety of delectable dippers. The recipe below aims to replicate that fondue, made with real Ghirardelli chocolate. ENJOY!

Ghirardelli Chocolate Fondue

12 oz. Ghirardelli semisweet chocolate baking morsels
12 oz. Ghirardelli milk chocolate baking morsels
13 oz. can evaporated milk
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
Dipper Suggestions from the King: Pineapple, pretzels, pound cake, strawberries, Nutter Butter cookies, nilla wafers, marshmallows, graham cracker sticks, bananas
  • Place all chocolate and evaporated milk in slow cooker
  • Cook on LOW for 45 minutes.
  • Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla
  • Continue to cook on LOW until chocolate mix is warm and smooth throughout
ENJOY!
